REVEREND CLEAVEN JOHNSON, JR
The Reverend Cleaven Johnson, Jr. was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He was called into the ministry in September of 1995. He has been preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ for 26 years. Also, he has pastored the Stanley Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church between the years of 2009-2014, and he has pastored the United Methodist Church of East Berlin. He has been a Methodist for the past 14 years. Reverend Johnson has attended the Springfield College School of Human Services, Yale Divinity School, and the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work. Also, he has attended the Yale New Haven Hospital at St. Raphael Campus for Clinical Pastoral Education. Reverend Johnson has a very extensive music career. He has worked with Dionne Warwick, Betty Wright, Bob Marley, Gloria Estefan, Be Be & Ce Ce Winans, The 5 Satins, and Dick Clark to name a few. Reverend Johnson has also been a promoter for church growth through an entity entitled “Black Expo USA” which was marketed to 24 cities within the United States of America. Reverend Johnson brought to the partnership a television viewership of 24 thousand people in 26 countries vis-a-vis the Bobby Jones Gospel. Coca Cola International, Continental Airways and Toys”R”Us were the national sponsors. Coca Cola awarded the Expo with a 2 million dollars sponsorship for advertisement. Reverend Johnson possesses the notion that the Lord Jesus Christ must be promoted and lifted up throughout entire world. Ministry is a self-giving love which spreads for one person to another. Pastoral ministry is very important to Reverend Johnson. John 12:32 says “and I, if I be lifted from the earth, will draw all men unto me (KJV, bible gateway.com). This can be accomplished by God Son’s Church (Jesus Christ) coming together to render a positive transformation throughout the world.
THE LITTLE CHURCH WITH A BIG HEART!
History of Long Hill United Methodist Church In 1830, a group of men banded together and petitioned Elijah Middlebrook, Justice of the Peace, for permission to become organized as "The Methodist Episcopal Society for Trumbull." Established in December, 1830, the first church building was purchased for $200 and was situated on Daniels Farm Road and "Old Back Road" (Now Lewis). Church records state: "Females will sit on the east and males on the west." That church building was sold at auction in 1866. Parishioners had been worshipping at and independent church called the Morgan Chapel (built in 1857), which was located at Main Street and Lake Avenue. Morgan Chapel was turned over to the Methodist Conference by Henry Morgan, founder of (the forerunner to) Goodwill Industries. With $10 down and a mortgage of $140, the Methodists moved their worship services to "The Hall," which was located just north of Long Hill Green, in 1902. In 1916, the parishioners felt the need for a new church. On land donated by Mr. & Mrs. Nestor Wedge, farmers brought stones from their fields and stonewall fences to build our beautiful church building that was dedicated in July, 1918 and has served generations of Methodists since! The sanctuary was remodeled to its present form in 1954 and its interior was renovated in 2003. Bradley Hall was built in 1950, and our education building was built in 1961.
